The holder of this Badge has obtained the BA in Scienze del Turismo e Comunità Locale - Science of Tourism and the Local Community at the University of Milano-Bicocca. The BA in Scienze del Turismo e Comunità Locale - Science of Tourism and the Local Community offers interdisciplinary training in a number of areas. The Bachelor’s degree, through a wide range of learning activities, specifically trains destination managers, capable of promoting towns, cultural heritage, natural parks and archaeological sites. The program consists of courses in four main areas: Sociology, Social research methodology, Local development and Place marketing; Business-Economy-Law; Cultural heritage, Media and Cultural events; Workshopsand Internships. The normal duration of the course is 3 years.

Badge Criteria

The holder of this Badge has obtained the BA in Scienze del Turismo e Comunità Locale - Science of Tourism and the Local Community (180 ECTS) at the University of Milano-Bicocca. The Program Structure is available at this link. In order to obtain this degree, a student must enrol in and complete the corresponding study program at the University of Milano-Bicocca. Once students complete the activities, ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits are awarded. The ECTS is a credit system for higher education that allows comparison of study attainments of students across the European Union (in Italy, 1 ECTS credit = 25 work or study hours). ECTS credits are awarded to students when they successfully complete learning activities, usually as follows: 1. regarding the taught courses, students must pass a final exam (written, oral, or both written and oral), achieving a mark equal to or higher than 18/30; 2. regarding internships (stages), attendance is compulsory (normally 100% of the total time, for a minimum 150 hours) and students must obtain a “pass grade from the teacher (or from the tutor, or the supervisor); 3. regarding practical workshops and fieldwork (laboratori), students must obtain a “pass grade from the teacher. Attendance is compulsory (normally 75% of the total time); 4. students must write an extended essay based on a practical experience, on a research project or on a theoretical study on a specific topic. The final degree grade depends on: 1. the weighted average of all grades obtained for all the learning activities, weighed by their ECTS credits; 2. the quality of the extended essay.

The BA in Scienze del Turismo e Comunità Locale - Science of Tourism and the Local Community provides graduates with a solid cultural background with regard to the principles of tourism in all forms, such as ecotourism, cultural tourism, urban tourism; sustainable business practices, marketing, management, planning skills and their application to various fields within the Italian and international tourism industry; the valorization of the natural and cultural heritage of the territory, information technology and its applications in the field of tourism.
