Many badge creators use traditional image editing software to create their badge images but there are a number of platforms with editors made specifically to design badges.

The visual design of badges should be considered holistically within a wider consideration of badge pathways. The University of British Columbia has some useful guidance around creating an 'appropriate aesthetic' and meaningful badge design.
