Description

The holder of this Badge has acquired knowledge and competencies regarding cinema and visual arts in relation to topics represented inside the film, chosen to highlight the uniqueness of the cinema for reflecting society. The above-mentioned knowledge and competencies have been acquired by participating in the Bbetween 2017 Cinema - Alternative Visions - Border: Sicily vs the Balkans pathway. The purpose of this pathway is to analyse, from different directions, recent cinematographic works which do not form part of the mainstream channel. The proposed films constitute an interesting point of view on current issues, such as migration and the concept of borders, as well as a non-standardised model of artistic expression. As well as the topics dealt with, consideration is given to the way in which the director develops the project of the film (inspection visits, novel, etc. ), the director’s look at the specific subject dealt with in the film, the relationship with the present and the expression of the issue of borders. The pathway, which is inspired by the project of Alternative Visions, promoted by the University of Roma Tre, is structured in 6 lessons, each lasting approximately two hours. The lessons include presentation of the film, the showing and subsequent discussion led by an expert on cinema and visual arts and, on occasions, by the film’s director or an expert on the specific topic. The films analysed are as follows: Malavoglia [Reluctance] (Pasquale Scimeca, Italy 2010, 94 min. ); Vergine giurata [Sworn virgin] (Laura Bispuri, Italy 2015, 84 min. ); I baci mai dati [Kisses never given] (Roberta Torre, Italy 2011, 80 min. ); I fantasmi di San Berillo [The ghosts of San Berillo] (Edoardo Morabito, Italy 2013, 76 min. ); My letter to Pippa (Bingöl Elmas, Turkey 2010, 60 min. ); La nave dolce [The sweet ship] (Daniele Vicari, Italy 2012, 90 min. ). On completion of the pathway, the participants are required to submit an original paper relating to one of the films from the programme, on the basis of a model illustrated and shared during the lessons.
