Description

The holder of this Badge has completed the Bbetween Cinema and Languages 2016-Cinema in English course, which is intended for anyone who has good command of the syntax and grammar of English, but who wishes to improve their understanding of spoken English. The holder of this Badge, by taking part in the Bbetween Cinema and Languages 2016-Cinema in English course, aimed at oral comprehension practice in varieties of English, has attended six meetings held by Prof. Fulvia Tassini, Lecturer in Interpreting at the "Altiero Spinelli" Civic School for Interpreters and Translators, in Milan, (Civica Scuola Interpreti e Traduttori "Altiero Spinelli". Fondazione Scuole Civiche Milano), during each of which a film was shown, analysed and discussed.  Each film was chosen for its characteristics  of variations of the language (terminology, linguistic register, prosody, geographical setting), in order to practise understanding.  The following films were shown: 1. FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL,  Mike Newell, 19942. GALLIPOLI,  Peter Weir, 19813. BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM,  Gurinder Chadha, 20024. WAKING NED DEVINE,  Kirk Jones, 19985. CRY FREEDOM,  Richard Attenborough, 19876. MEET THE FOCKERS, Jay Roach, 2004Each meeting lasted for two hours, a total of 12 hours altogether.

Badge Criteria

The Bbetween Cinema and Languages 2016-Cinema in English Badge is an activity Badge. It may be issued to students of the University or to outsiders who make an application.  Conditions required for awarding the Badge are: being registered for the course and having attended the showings of at least 5 of the 6 films programmed.

The holder of this Badge has demonstrated that he or she possesses and can apply the following SKILLS: awareness of the various facets of the English language; ability to recognise certain features of the “Varieties of English according to geographical, social and temporal settings; ability to analyse certain intercultural aspects of the Anglophone world; better command of the English language.
