MSc in Astrofisica e Fisica dello Spazio - Badge
Name
MSc in Astrofisica e Fisica dello Spazio.
Issuer
Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca.
Issued since 18 December 2017.
Description
The holder of this Badge has obtained the MSc in Astrofisica e Fisica dello Spazio - Astrophysics and Space Physics at the University of Milano-Bicocca. The MSc in Astrofisica e Fisica dello Spazio - Astrophysics and Space Physics offers advanced training in astrophysics, cosmology and physics of space and gravitation. The program includes a laboratory on galaxies, and courses in stellar structure and evolution, extragalactic astronomy, relativistic astrophysics, cosmology, astronomical instrumentation, cosmic rays and applied astrophysics. After completing the first compulsory courses, students can choose to undertake a theoretical-interpretative or an observational-experimental pathway. Lectures are in Italian and English. The course offers the possibility to spend time abroad via the Erasmus+ initiative, Traineeship Programme, LLP Erasmus, Placement, Extra and Exchange program. The normal duration of the course is 2 years.
Badge Criteria
The holder of this Badge has obtained the MSc in Astrofisica e Fisica dello Spazio - Astrophysics and Space Physics (120 ECTS) at the University of Milano-Bicocca. The Program Structure is available at this link. In order to obtain this degree, a student must enrol and complete the corresponding study program at the University of Milano-Bicocca. Once students complete the activities, ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits are awarded. The ECTS is a credit system for higher education that allows comparison of study attainments of students across the European Union (in Italy, 1 ECTS credit= 25 work or study hours). ECTS credits are awarded to students when they successfully complete learning activities, usually as follows: 1. regarding the taught courses, students must pass a final exam (written, oral, or both written and oral), achieving a mark equal to or higher than 18/30; 2. regarding internships and practical exercises, students must attend the majority of the course compulsorily (in general 70% of the total time) and must obtain a "pass" grade from the teacher (or from the tutor, or the supervisor); 3. regarding workshops and fieldwork, students must: in certain cases, pass a final exam (written, oral, or both written and oral), achieving a mark equal to or higher than 18/30, or, in other cases, attend the majority of the module/course compulsorily (in general 70% of the total time) and obtain a "pass" grade from the teacher (or from the tutor, or the supervisor); 4. students must complete an extended essay on a specific research project, in the field of theoretical or experimental astronomy which contains an overview of the literature and is novel and original. The final degree grade depends on: 1. the weighted average of all grades obtained for all the learning activities, weighed by their ECTS credits; 2. the quality of the final dissertation.
