My focus is creating better outcomes for learners and wider society through the development and application of innovative, technology enabled solutions. Working with education, government and industry, I have led and contributed to a number of transformational Open Badge projects. These include:

• The Discover Open Badges project. Working with Mozilla, this ground-breaking project was the first to define how to digitally connect individuals to opportunities through badge-based pathways. The project contributed to the development of the original digital credential standard, Open Badges, and laid the foundations for the evolving Open Badge Learning Pathways specification
• Cities of Learning. I worked with the RSA and Digitalme to bring the Cities of Learning concept to the UK. My work on badge-based pathways provided the conceptual basis for the digital platform
• Open Badges in Scottish Education Group. In 2013, I founded the multi-disciplinary network that explored the opportunities and challenges for developing an Open Badge ecosystem in Scotland. The first group of its kind in the world, members included representatives from education, industry, the 3rd sector and the Scottish Government
